ABOUT ME

I am a Chartered mechanical design engineer with the IMechE, with over a decade of experience in machine, product, and scientific instrument development. For the past six years, I have been a consultant in medical device development, working with one of the world's leading technology developers. As a consultant, I specialise in concept generation, product and instrument design, 3D CAD, mathematical modelling of mechanical systems, rendering, and more. My expertise extends to solo development projects and collaborative work within larger multidisciplinary teams. I hold Master's degrees in mechanical engineering and robotics and am pursuing my PhD in computational optimisation at Swansea University.

MECHANICAL ENGINEERING CONSULTANT

February 2018 - Sept 2023
As a Mechanical Engineering Consultant, I developed innovative electro-mechanical solutions for the life sciences industry within highly multidisciplinary teams. I worked closely with clients to understand their requirements and design products and scientific instruments that meet industry standards, such as ISO 13485 and BS EN 60825-1. My work involved optics (including lasers), thermal control, pneumatics, and microfluidics. My understanding of manufacturing technologies developed through reviewing designs with experienced engineers and suppliers, particularly regarding injection moulding and precision machined components.

I used PTC Creo, SolidWorks, and Onshape for creating and simulating engineering solutions and generating technical drawings to facilitate manufacturing and deployment. Additionally, I used Python and Jupyter Notebooks for the mathematical modelling of mechanical and control systems. A significant part of my role involved assembling, testing, and debugging prototype electro-mechanical systems, which has significantly developed my debugging skills.

Skills: ISO Standards · Testing · Jupyter · Electromechanics · Client Relations · 3D CAD · Machine Design · Concept Generation · Mechanical Engineering · SolidWorks · Python

R&D Mechanical Engineer
(Blacktrace holdings ltd)

January 2017 - December 2017
As a mechanical design engineer at Blacktrace, I developed emerging technologies into marketable products. My work involved using PTC Creo and Windchill to create electro-mechanical products and instrumentation from concept to pre-production build for the biotech and flow chemistry industries. To ensure the products were ready for testing and approval, I created software using C# and Python. Additionally, I conducted DFMEAs and developed tooling and jigs to improve production efficiency and implement quality control measures. This role allowed me to understand better the relationship between engineering and marketing, which helped me integrate essential engineering skills and form the foundation of my future career as a consultant. As a mechanical design engineer at Blacktrace, I developed emerging technologies into marketable products. Senior cae analyst
(axiscades)

October 2015 - December 2016
As the UK CAE Project Manager at Axiscades, I expanded my FEA and mathematical modelling expertise. I created detailed technical reports to present design validation findings and conducted mathematical modelling of mechanical and structural systems for component specification and structural assessment purposes. My duties included providing engineering consultancy services to clients globally, utilising software like PTC Creo/Simulate, Autodesk Inventor, MATLAB, and Altair Hyperworks. I supervised remote engineering teams based in India to ensure successful project delivery. This role helped me improve my skills in communicating technical information to clients and stakeholders. Additionally, I had the opportunity to expand my knowledge of injection moulding, sheet metal fabrication, machining, and casting processes. As the UK CAE Project Manager at Axiscades, I expanded my FEA and mathematical modelling expertise. R&D Mechanical engineer
(Intelligent Energy)

Febuary 2015 - October 2015
As a mechanical design engineer at Intelligent Energy, I was responsible for designing and developing evaporatively cooled hydrogen fuel cell systems for various industries. My duties included utilising Solidworks and different PDM packages to develop low-voltage modules and cell stack structures and performing FEA within the evaporatively cooled fuel cell team. I was also responsible for lab testing prototype designs, designing apparatus for test-driven development, and conducting statistical analysis of the resulting data to inform design decisions. Furthermore, I developed assemblies to interface with independently designed sub-systems.As a mechanical design engineer at Intelligent Energy, I was responsible for designing and developing evaporatively cooled hydrogen fuel cell systems for various industries. design engineer
(terex corporation)

October 2013 - Febuary 2015
As a design engineer in Coalville, I began my career working on the jaw crusher team. There, I gained valuable experience in machinery development within a team setting. I worked under experienced engineers who taught me how to design for machining, casting, and fabrication using Creo, Simulate, and Pulse PDM. I learned about the critical consideration of fatigue failure. I visited quarries to evaluate prototype machinery performance and developed an interest in creating mathematical models to simulate designs. As a result, my responsibilities eventually grew to include FEA in the crushing chamber division. I converted load cases into free-body diagrams and built a Python model to simulate wear conditions. Additionally, I worked on designing and validating lifting accessories to meet UK/EU regulations (BS EN 13001). I represented Terex in the National Engineering Education Scheme. As a design engineer in Coalville, I began my career working on the jaw crusher team. Design engineer
(qt services)

October 2010 - October 2011
My journey into engineering began during my Master's placement at QT Services. I worked there for a year and was involved in designing and manufacturing Dakar race vehicles for the motorsport industry. My role included developing vehicle sub-assemblies and technical drawings for a special-edition car for the Dubai Motor Show. I even had the opportunity to support BBC Top Gear features twice. One of the most notable projects I worked on was conceptualising how to convert a Wildcat race car into a military support vehicle and ambulance for an external client. This experience was the foundation of my engineering career. My journey into engineering began during my Master's placement at QT Services.
